Abstract:
Natural resource data were mapped to show areas in Summit County that are environmentally sensitive. These areas are defined as the union of three maps: the woodlands and riparian corridor maps (both prepared by Davey from 2000 Summit County aerial ortho-photography); and the ODNR groundwater map, (showing areas with production potential of 100 gallons per minute).
Purpose:
Some communities choose a proactive approach when it comes to protecting environmentally sensitive areas. The landscape can support development without diminishing the environmental quality of these natural resources. During the site selection/site design process, land developers will be able to use this information to make better informed decisions and avoid these more vulnerable and less resilient areas. Environmentally sensitive lands can be identified and set aside. Often, buildings and infrastructure can be clustered within areas that are not environmentally sensitive.
