Abstract:

Disparate recreation/open space data were compiled from three existing databases (Cleveland Metroparks 8-County Inventory; Metroparks Serving Summit County inventory, and Summit County Parks database). The Summit County parcel database was queried by ownership using key words relating to recreation and open space, including golf courses, recreation, school districts, homeowners associations, and religious institutions. The parcels identified in these four databases were reviewed against the County's April 2000 aerial photographs to identify readily apparent active recreation uses (e.g., golf courses, ball fields, and tennis courts) and passive recreation occurring within known parks or conservation areas, as well as to identify apparent inconsistencies with mapped data.

Purpose:

To develop and compile mapping of Summit County recreation and open space resources to allow better resource management and planning for open space, recreation, and conservation lands. Such resources are important community assets and also can play important roles in resource protection and transportation.
