Abstract:

The Land Hooks dataset contains "Z"-shaped line symbols indicating a common parcel across a line feature in the Summit County parcel maps. The "Z" symbol is placed over the dividing line at right angles to the line. This layer is a holdover from the days of hand-drafted tax maps. With the conversion of the tax maps to digital parcel maps, the Parcel Regions dataset now more accurately delineates the parcels. However, the Land Hooks layer is still maintained. This dataset is maintained in an ESRI ARC/INFO LIBRARIAN database.

Purpose:

To provide the taxpayers and agencies of Summit County a Land Hooks layer at a scale and accuracy useful for property appraisal, planning, analysis, and cartographic output. The suitability of this dataset for any other uses is not guaranteed and the user assumes all risk for such uses. Summit County, Ohio, assumes no legal responsibility for works derived from this dataset. This dataset should never be relied upon to establish with certainty the location of property lines or the location of any other feature in relation to a property line. To establish a property line, or the relationship of a feature to a property line, the services of a Professional Surveyor, registered to practice in the State of Ohio, must be employed.

Land hooks can be a pre-defined size, or can be hand-digitized. Each land hook should be drawn at right angles to the line it is placed over at the point of placement.
